Huang Chuncai is a man from southern Hunan province in China, who is famous for being born with an extreme case of Neurofibromatosis. Huang Chuncai was born in 1977. He is the eldest child in his family, and has a younger brother and sister, and one nephew. Huang's parents first noticed signs of deformity when he was four years old. He was taken to hospital and diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis. His parents were too poor to finance an operation, and the doctors also said it was too dangerous. They were a poor family. His father earned money by selling noodles in the local market. Huang's tumor continued to grow, and when he was eight years old he started school, but left when he was ten because he was isolated by the other children, who called him the elephant man. When he was 31 years old his tumor weighed 25 kg, half his body weight.
Haung's younger brother and sister have given up their careers at sports shoe factories to care for their brother. Haung's brother Huang Wei Cai, also left his wife and three year old son to return home and help look after his brother. 'It was hard to chose between my wife and my family. But at the end of the day my family comes first,' he says.
Six weeks after his operation, Haung says, 'I'm much happier with my face. The operation has brought me a lot of relief. We can walk, talk, eat and play cards much easier than before.' (priekšpēdējā bilde ir tūlīt pirms operācijas, pēdējā - pēc)
